Ubuntu 9.10 and HP Laserjet 1018 problem

I am having large number of small HP printer, which were having printing problem, even after upgrading Ubuntu to 9.10, problem was not resolved. After days googling I found following solution, which I like to share with you :

Some Facts :
1. Ubuntu 9.10 comes with the default hplip 3.9.8
2. Current version of hplip is 3.9.10 (as of now) which is not required (may be a improved version)
3. To run the printer HP LaserJet 1000, 1005, 1006, 1018, 1020, 1022, 1120, 1319, 1505 a plugin is required.

Procedure :

1. Download a plugin hplip-3.9.8-plugin.run from http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/ (don't be greedy to download higher version)
2. Confirm that the printer is attached through USB port and is “on”.
3. System → Administration → Printing → new
4. There will be a popup for plugin
5. Give path for hplip-3.9.8-plugin.run where the plugin has been downloaded.
6. Complete the setup procedure
7. Restart the system

Best of luck

  1. Why doesn’t my printer HP LaserJet 1018print the documents through the USB? When I throw a document to print on my USB, it just waits and after a minute the hp-toolbox returns these errors. Printer queue stopped Code: 700 and Device Communication Error Code: 5012.I make out my printer is fine since I print with it on my Windows xp. Recently I updated my Pc with windows 7. I had been downloaded drivers for windows 7 on this link
